One thing you learn very quickly hanging around the Trail Blazers is you don’t use a certain word around LaMarcus Aldridge.
“LaMarcus,” Brandon Roy said chuckling before the game, “hates the word ‘soft.’ Hates it. I learned that real quick.”
To a player, being called soft is one of the worst insults around. It’s like challenging one’s manhood. It means you aren’t tough. Don’t like contact. Can be easily intimidated. And it is a word that has followed Aldridge since he was the No. 2 overall pick three years ago. Some see his feathery jumper and assume he must hate contact. Others see his lanky frame and equate that with finesse, not power.
Wonder what people are saying today?
Because for me, the Blazers’...

LaMarcus Aldridge scored a game high 22 points for the Portland Trailblazers as the Blazers rebounded from Monday’s road loss to the Nuggets by beating the same Denver squad up in Portland last night. The game remained close throughout, until LaMarcus sealed the win with an offensive rebound and a powerful put-back slam with only 29 seconds left to play. The win by the Blazers ties them for first in the Northwest division with the Nuggets.
“It’s huge for us,” Aldridge said. “It’s going to be the next step for us to make it to the playoffs. We have to beat good teams.”
In the game LaMarcus pulled down 8 rebounds, and shot 7-12 from the field. Playing the…

It’s no secret that Brandon Roy is considered the unquestioned leader of the Trail Blazers locker room, but when you’re playing on a team as young as Portland’s, there are plenty of opportunities for mentorship. That’s where LaMarcus Aldridge comes in.
Despite being just a third-year player himself, Aldridge, along with Roy, has the credibility that comes along being one of the cornerstones of the franchise’s future. But aside from that, Aldridge has proven himself as a trusted source of basketball knowledge; a player who has the smarts and understanding of the system to guide teammates on the court when necessary. Rotations get missed and assignments confused, and when that happens, Aldridge is there to help out. It’s a role he’s…

LaMarcus appears to be coming out of his slump after capping off a run of good play with a 27 point performance last night in the Blazers win at Detroit. The 27 points tied LA’s season high and came on 11-19 shooting and 5-5 from the free throw line. Sunday’s performance marks the 3rd straight game that LaMarcus scored at least 15 points while shooting better than 50% from the floor.
“He had his jump-shot going tonight and when it is falling it is tough to guard us” said coach Nate McMillan after the game. “It is nice to see him get in a rhythm since both he and Brandon (Roy) are the guys we are going…
